4 MONTHS that will change the way you look at farming

We work hard... moving, feeding, and watering the animals, cleaning eggs, processing chickens, building and maintaining infrastructure, making deliveries, helping customers in the Farm Store, record keeping, meeting other farmers, and more. Interns come to Whiffletree ready to learn, and leave our farm equipped to start their own! Interns receive a stipend and bonus upon completion (details below).

Workweek + Seasonal Internship Sessions

We have 3 intern sessions: Spring, Fall, and Winter. Our typical workweek averages 50 hours a week, ranging from MON to SAT 6 am - 5:30 pm (with some evenings and weekends).

SPRING | April through July - 4 months - 4 interns
FALL | August through November - 4 months - 4 interns
WINTER |  December through march - 4 months - 3 inters

FARM.   MANAGE.   NETWORK.

What Interns Learn

  • FARM-- Interns will become versed in all the pertinent farming practices of raising our animals, with exposure to all the animal work on a daily basis.
  • MANAGE-- Interns gain exposure to how we operate (business, marketing, customer service, record keeping, sourcing, etc.)
  • NETWORK-- Because we source from a diverse group of farming friends who are raising what we do not, interns have exposure to many knowledgeable people and farms.

Who We're Looking For

Candidates must be 18 years of age and have an excellent attitude and great work ethic. We are looking for a person who is cheerful, tidy, professional, honest, very willing to receive constructive criticism and desires to do the work excellently and quickly. No farming experience is required.

Stipend

Interns receive a stipend of $800/month, and $800 bonus for completing the full 4 months.

    Food & Housing

Interns purchase and cook their own food, but we have communal lunch 2 days a week.  And interns get a $100 food credit/month. We offer 3 accommodations to interns:

    1. THE APARTMENT-- Our single-sex intern apartment is a finished space in the back of our historic Carriage Museum that fits 3-4 people. It has a shower/sink, full kitchen, bedroom, living room, woodstove, washer and drier, and heat/AC.
    2. THE COTTAGE-- Our single-sex intern cottage fits 1-2 people and has a shower/sink, full kitchen, and heat/AC.
    3. THE CAMPER--Our camper trailer that fits 1-2 people and has a shower/sink, composting toilet, full kitchen, and heat/AC.

    Breaks & Days Off

Interns receive 45 minute breaks for breakfast and lunch, and 2 days off per week. So an intern is working 5 days/week with the equivalent of two full days off. Work that happens in the evening (most often loading chickens) is made up for with longer breaks in the afternoon.
